Friends of the Portage District Library

The Friends is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds for the Portage District Library in Portage, MI.

The public donates books, puzzles and tapes to the friends by bringing them to our drop-off bin near the front entrance of the library. Volunteers take the books downstairs to the sorting room where the items are organized for the sales that take place every other month. The Public shops at each book sale to purchase books and other items for themselves or as gifts for others. Yes, many of the books are like new and make very thoughtful gifts.

Volunteers on the Friends Board meet 6 times per year to discuss the business of the Friends. Grants are made to the Portage District Library to purchase items that benefit the patrons and staff of the library. These items could not be purchased in the budget of the library. Also, the Summer Reading Program is 100% funded by a grant from the Friends.
